All these technologies were the result of funding awards from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR). DHS is one of 11 federal agencies participating in SBIR, one of the largest public-private partnerships in the U.S. DHS S&T issues solicitations to address the needs of seven DHS operational units—the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and U.S. Secret Service—as well as first responders.
